Every week Euro Puppy showcases a dog lamp. Is it tacky or wacky? We will leave it up to you to decide. While having our own beliefs, we would love your comments...Enjoy....

A Porcelain Work of Art.

This week we feature a really interesting lamp. At first glance it doesn't look to sophisticated until you realize that this puppy lamp is made of translucent porcelain.

In addition, the eyes are made of glass. The best part however, is the perfume chamber behind the neck of the dog where the lamp heats the liquid, diffusing the perfume into the air.

The perfume will be based on Isopropyl alcohol and will therefore be highly flammable. Careful! The originality of this piece is displayed when you look carefully and find tiny pin sized holes in the porcelain that occurred during the firing process.

In addition, the ensure that the porcelain will not crack from the heat, notice the series of holes in the top of his head! A great specimen.

Wacky or tacky, what do you think?

Someone once said "Whoever said that money can't buy happiness forgot small puppies". That thought is absolutely true! The $25 my mother spent to get me my first dog was an investment that lasted our family for 14 years and gave us all the love she could.

Never underestimate the joy and happiness a dog can bring you. Through all the stages of her life.

A STUMP FOR A TAIL

You can't buy loyalty, they say
I bought it though, the other day;
You can't buy friendship, tried and true,
Well just the same, I bought that too.
I made my bid, and on the spot
Bought love and faith and a whole job lot
Of happiness, so all in all
The purchase price was pretty small.
I bought a single trusting heart,
That gave devotion from the start.
If you think these things are not
for sale, Buy a brown-eyed puppy with
a stump for a tail.

In Tibetan culture, people greet each other by sticking out their tongues. It's also used to show respect. One can't help but think that this fella will get along great there.

Holy Cow, look at that tongue! The Tibetan's tongue sticking out culture derives from the belief that a person with a black tongue is wicked. If that's so, then this dog must be the most kind hearted creature on earth!

He looks happy too :)

Question: Dog Cruelty & Injured Pets - Questions from a California Dog Owner

“I know of two possible times of animal cruelty where the dogs have been abused by the owner by kicking, beating with a belt, under-feeding, etc. This really disturbs me as I have always loved animals. I need to take some kind of action if I knew what I could do. I know that the Humane Society might not be of much help in this type of situation, and if they were, might take similar steps to that of the pound. So therefore, I do not believe the dogs would be much better off.”

“My second question is about injured animals. What can I do one sees an injured animal along side the road? Once again, I would love to help but have heard so much about how the city likes to throw animals into pounds and how they fail to treat injured dogs and cats. Do you have any advice on how a person should handle a situation like this?”

Answer:

A few years ago, a spokesperson from the San Diego County Human Society and S.P.C.A. replied to these questions with the following quote:

“Humane Societies within the state of California are autonomous organizations, and have no connection with each other, other than most of the major societies in the state belong to the California State Humane Association.”

They go on to say:

“Unless this person had unfortunate experiences with their local Humane Society, I feel it is unfair to presume that they 'might not be of much help in this situation'. All major humane societies in California have State Humane Officers who are sworn to uphold the laws of the State of California relative to cruelty, and these officers are the logical people to accept and investigate any complaints regarding cruelty to any animal.”

And in response to the second question, the spokesperson explains:

“Relative to the second question concerning injured animals: Section 597f of the Penal Code clearly states that, 'It shall be the duty of all officers of pounds or humane societies, and animal regulation departments of public agencies to convey, and for police and sheriff's departments, to cause to be conveyed all injured cats and dogs found without their owners in a public place directly to a veterinarian.'”

“So regardless of what rumors you may have heard, it is perhaps unfair to again assume that the city pound or Humane Society in your area, or any other city for that matter, would fail to treat an injured dog or cat, and until you first-hand knowledge in this matter I think is best that you call for their assistance.”

If you've just bought or adopted a puppy, know that one day, the "Biting Phase" will start. They're gonna grow sharp little teeth that make you yelp when they chomp down. Don't worry! They never bite hard, and are just testing their teeth.

Puppy Biting

However, it is very important to know how to react when puppies bite you. Always yelp or cry out if pains and put your puppy down for a few minutes. It's important that the little fellow realizes that it's not really acceptable to bite family members hard, and not acceptable to bite non family members at all.

Never whack your puppy if they bite you since I really feel they won't understand why you're doing that. If you find that your dog is biting or damaging the furniture, you can get certain non toxic substances from your local pet store that creates a bitter taste that makes furniture unattractive to the puppy.

Puppies will grow out of the biting phase in time. When their teeth are growing, it relieves them to chomp down on something. Till then, try and even enjoy this phase! When your dog is old, you'll remember the time he used to tug on your jeans with this his wagging.

Kelly Osbourne is well known for her role in "The Osbournes" which is about her father and his family. The series was a reality show documenting her life. She was show some time ago carrying a mixed breed dog called a "puggle", but since then carries around a Shiba Inu - a dog from Japan.

She has earned some criticism for her inability to keep her dogs properly and changing them regularly.

According to the Japanese, the Shiba Inu is very light on it's feet and extremely "artless". They are very clean dogs that resemble a cat in their movements of licking their paws. They will also try and keep their fur clean and therefore are an easy dog to housetrain requiring a minimal amount of supervision.

The Shiba Inu is also known for it's high pitched scream when it's happy or upset. It is one of the oldest dog breeds known to man.

Hound Lamp.

This Traditional Golden Brown hound is a splendidly carved piece. Standing at 27 inches, it has a bronzed metal finish and perfectly defines the best characteristics of a hunting hound.

Right from the slim waist to the curved tail in action, the figure speaks of an animated moment where the dog is seeking further direction for the hunt. The whole posture exudes the presence of an intelligent animal trying to understand what her master requires from her. The lithe figure and the shapely legs show the hound in her prime.

An asset to any study and any dog lover.

If we believe in angels and that each person has a guardian angel, what do you think of an angel for our dogs too? One that takes our dogs with them after they leave earth. Remember your dog when she was young, and used to have unbounded energy? When she used to always want to play and bite your socks? They grow old so fast, these friends of ours.

It's like the elves would feel towards men...

And how will she be when she goes off to heaven (Where else can she go?). Will she play again? Only while she looks forward to meeting you again I'm sure.

Poem for Dog Lovers

Hello. I've been expecting you for quite some time.
Here, come sit beside us for awhile .
and let me tell you about this old friend of mine.
She might look tattered or maybe old
But I won't say goodbye until you've been told.
She had the brightest eyes I had ever seen,
And wore a beautiful fur coat that would out shine a queen .
She was never prissy but walked with an aire ......
And oh so polite, you could take her most anywhere.
She could run like the wind and could catch anything she chased
But she protected and sat with me when I had problems to face.
You could not find a friend nearly so dear.
Because no matter the trouble she always stayed near...
She has never asked for much from me;
Just to love and respect her and I think you'll agree .
To give her a good meal plus a nice warm bed is not much to ask ;
When she has given me all her love and to her this was no task.
Now I understand you have a schedule to keep.
But I have a small favor before she nods off to sleep.
Please fold your wings around her and let her feel young while in no pain ;
Dear Guardian Angel of Pets ,
please keep her safe and happy until I see her again
.

I would argue that this is one of the most awesome shots ever. We've all played with our dogs using balls, but look at this one go! All the elements are there - Look at the paws curled up, the legs in the process of lifting off the ground...

But most of all, check out the ears. Laid black, blowing behind him with the sheer speed of movement. He looks just like a plane about to take off!

Here's another one with him having accomplished the feat:
