In 1978, a law was enacted in New York which stipulated that dog owners must clean up after their dog had done their business on the street.

If the official figures are to be believed, the total amount of dog poop that was deposited on the streets before that was 40 MILLION POUNDS per year! I wonder how they managed before the law.
